Guardianship Assistance Program

The Guardianship Assistance Program recruits, trains, and refers volunteers and family members to become guardians for persons who are adjudicated incompetent, or no longer able to act in their own best interest, due to a developmental disability, the infirmities of aging, or other like incapabilities including mental illness. Requests are made by case managing agencies and volunteers are appointed guardians by the court, for persons and their estates. Guardians are then empowered to make decisions for their wards relating to their care, treatment, services, and living arrangements. In general, the guardian exercises and advocates for the rights of their ward. The program supports all guardians by providing assistance upon request.
