Independent Living Program

Photo: Independent Living Center The Independent Living Program provides supportive services to help older adolescents prepare to live independently. Most youth in the program are on juvenile court supervision for protective or delinquent reasons. The program places great emphasis on tailoring goals and treatment plans to meet each youth’s unique needs. Service components include:

Independent Living: There are twenty-five scattered-site living arrangements for youth. The youth in these arrangements receive case management, skill teaching, some subsidy of their living expenses, and regular supportive contact with staff at our Independent Living Center. Many of our clients are teen mothers with children.

Adult Living Skills: The program provides assessments of independent living skills, skill teaching, and goal planning for all Kenosha youth over 15 in alternate care. The purpose is to insure that youth aging out of care transition successfully to adulthood.

Aftercare: Youth are encouraged to utilize Transitional Living staff for assistance even after their formal discharge from programming.

Education and Training Vouchers: In 2004, the Transitional Living Program received money from the State of Wisconsin for scholarships for youth who were formerly in foster care and attending college. Eight youth received such aid in 2004.
