The Kenosha Adult Residential Emergency (KARE) Center is a licensed, community-based residential facility licensed for ten beds. It provides a safe, supportive, and homelike setting for mentally ill and homeless mentally ill people, and is an alternative to hospitalization.
The average stay for guests is three to five days or until the person becomes stabilized and can return to their normal (or possibly new) living arrangements. Supportive and aftercare services are provided to these clients by Community Intervention Center staff.
The Adult Shelter opened September 1, 1987; it was renamed the KARE Center and relocated on June 1, 2000. It is an emergency service that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the
