November 13-November 24, 2019 is National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week. All week long there are activities planned that you can participate in which will help shed some light and bring awareness to needs of the hungry and homeless in our community.
Throughout the week, you can support your local food pantry! Organize a workplace food drive or donate non-perishable food items. Local pantries such as Grace Welcome Center and Salvation Army are always in need and would welcome your contribution!
Donate new or gently used winter coats, boots, or shoes for adults to the ELCA Outreach Center at 6218-26th Avenue. Warm clothing is much needed in these colder months so go through your closets and purge anything you aren’t using that would be a treasure to someone in need.
Donate supplies or an entire care package! Supplies needed are:
- Blankets/sleeping bags
- Bottles of water
- Lip balm
- Combs
- Toiletries
- Hand warmers
- Knit stocking hats
- Scarves
- Razors
- Crew socks
Supplies can be dropped off at the Shalom Center at 4314 39th Avenue.
On Tuesday November 19th – wear ORANGE to raise awareness for those in our community who are hungry.
On Wednesday November 20th – wear PURPLE to raise awareness for those who are experiencing homelessness.
On Thursday November 21st – Join us at the Shalom Center at 5pm for a Resource Fair, highlighting those services in our area available to help. Then at 6pm we will have a Candlelight Vigil.
Saturday November 23rd – display a light in your window to shine a light on Hunger and Homelessness. Let’s light up Kenosha with the light of hope!
Be the light you wish to see in this world! Be a light – Connect In! Use your influence on social media and spread the word. Use #HHWeek when mentioning these activities!
