International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on 31 August each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.
Kenosha Human Development Services has put together these informational resources to help raise that awareness in the Kenosha community. Together we can work toward reducing drug overdoses, and end the stigma associated with substance use disorders. Please share this page with your friends, family and professional contacts.
In 2018, 67,367 of our fellow Americans died due to overdose. Of those, 839 were Wisconsinites. And of those, 46 were Kenoshans. All of those deaths were preventable.
We have a wealth of resources available locally to support individuals facing substance use disorders and their loved ones. Visit khds.org/overdose-awareness-day for more information, and be sure to wear purple on August 31 in support of International Overdose Awareness Day!
